Dear June,

RE: Your Nomination for 2009 ISP Membership

We miss you, and we want you back! The International Society of Poets has made significant progress over the past several years. Our membership has grown and our annual conventions have become the most talked about educational and entertaining poetry events in the world. We're disappointed you haven't renewed your membership, and we want to remind you of our mission of P.E.A.C.E., our dedication to the advancement of poetry, and the benefits of your ISP membership.

We Truly Miss You, June, And We Want You Back . . .

As you know, we are an organization of which you can be proud to belong. Since our very first day, we've had the same mission of P.E.A.C.E. (Poetry, Education, Accomplishment, Charity, and Equality). These five words define who we are as individuals and as a society. Allow me to explain. We welcome poetry of all levels, styles, and disciplines, and many of the poems we receive are published in our magazine, Poetry Today, or in our annual ISP Showcase Journal. We stand behind our educational mission in more than one way. Our staff regularly volunteers at local schools, encouraging and helping young students to recognize and develop their own style of artistic expression. Furthermore, we have developed the most comprehensive educational staff possible for our live events, including former U.S. Poet Laureates and Pulitzer Prize winners. These live events, however, are only one instance when our members receive their due recognition; we also acknowledge them for individual accomplishments in poetry with certificates, trophies, and prize money. Monetary donations are also a way in which we support various charities, including National Public Radio and the NCC Foundation. In addition, this year we will donate $0.10 to the American Red Cross for every poem that is included in our Poem for Peace. Moreover, for schools that are in need of textbooks, we gladly donate as many copies as necessary of To Write a Poem by Dr. Len Roberts. Last but not least, all of our members are treated equally . . . regardless of skill level, education, age, race, religion, origin, social standing, or economic status. It's because of our members that these things are possible, and we appreciate all of your support.

International Society Of Poets 1,000-Book Giveaway!

This year we're doing something different to stimulate the world of poetry and literature. We've decided to give away 1,000 books to local libraries. That's nearly $40,000 in books donated to libraries all over the world. June, these aren't just any books; they are books of poetry written by members like you! one of the benefits of being a Distinguished Member of the International Society of Poets is you have the opportunity to contribute one of your favorite poems to be featured in our annual ISP Showcase Journal. We'll even send you a free copy of the journal featuring your poem (when it's published), and we'll also send one to your local library on your behalf. In return for donating the book, we are asking you to go to the library and perform at a poetry reading or volunteer to start a poetry club. It's a great way to gain local exposure for your poetry as well as make a donation to your library. We understand that not everyone can volunteer their time, so even if you don't go to the library, we'll still donate your book. It's easy to participate in this endeavor—just fill out the library submission form and include your poem when you complete your renewal application.

ISP Press Department Is Here To Promote You!

As a Distinguished Member, our ISP Press Department will promote both you and your poetry through various public relations efforts. For starters, we would like to issue a press release to the major newswire bureaus announcing your membership in the International Society of Poets.

And That's Not All . . .

When you renew your membership, you'll not only receive a copy of our ISP Showcase Journal featuring your work, but also many other tangible items. Membership includes the following: a newly designed Distinguished Membership plaque, a distinctive gold membership pin, and a one-year subscription to our award-winning magazine, Poetry Today. You'll also receive hundreds of dollars in discounts, including a $100 coupon for this year's annual International Society of Poets Convention and Symposium, where you'll have the unique opportunity to meet and share your poetry with other members.

Many members have asked us about publishing their own book of poetry. As a Distinguished Member of the International Society of Poets, you will receive special discounts that can make publishing your own book more affordable than you think. It's a great way to record and copyright all of your writings, while earning a little bit of money on the side.

Perhaps the most lucrative benefit of membership is participating in our exclusive contests. The International Society of Poets has awarded over $1,000,000 in prize money to poets just like you who have submitted their work. We have awarded book grants for poets to publish their own book of poetry and scholarships to young poets to help them in their pursuit of a quality education.

Being a member of the International Society of Poets is about being part of an international band of brothers and sisters who share in the joy of writing poetry and who believe in our mission of P.E.A.C.E. Please renew now and take advantage of all the benefits that membership has to offer. Come and rejoin your poetic family.

Sincerely,

Steven J. Michaels
